Don't dream your life, live your dreams...
I was born and raised in England and for as long back as I can remember I have loved swimming and nature.
As a child I was enthralled with the natural world and would mimic the movements and sounds of many animals. Needless to say, when I was in the water I developed my own way of swimming that mimicked a dolphin. There is a weightlessness and freeness of movement only found when submerged and I would play for hours, twisting and turning and weaving through the water. I never tired of it.
As I grew up, I continued to swim in such a fashion and later learned that the swim style was called a dolphin kick. I also learned about and became interested in monofins and free diving. I knew right away that owning a monofin would be a must one day, where I could put my swim style to use, enhancing it with a fin. When I learned about mermaid tails, I was completely enthralled and my passion only grew from there!
Eventually I moved to Queensland, Australia and am blessed with beautiful beaches and warm sunny weather, the perfect place for a mermaid... But as is usual with adulthood, it all became a bit of a pipe dream and not something I felt I was really able pursue. Between the financial and social/confidence challenges that come with embarking on becoming a mermaid performer, there was little room for me to do much more than fantasize about such things... But those who really know me, eventually learn about my deeply imaginative and child-like side, this is the real me, hidden beneath the more sophisticated exterior I exhibit on a day to day with the world around me.
A mermaid tail was a whimsical dream but never a reality... until something wonderful happened...
A wonderful and supportive few friends came together to make my dream come true...
My Dream tail that I had for years been obsessing over, created by the amazing Mertailor in Florida, was purchased and sent to me by those few who know me best. Once I had it, I could not let the opportunity to make full use of it go to waste... after all, we only have one life, so why waste it by denying yourself the things that truly make you happy, no matter how childish they may seem...
And here I am, living my dream.
At present I am swimming weekly at my local outdoor pool in Manly (who's staff are wonderful and very supportive <3) but my goal is to grow this into a business and start performing live.
I have a long road ahead and I am looking forwards to every second of the journey.
